Couple to marry in Canton Repository lobby

From The Repository

"Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" was a mystery-comedy that came out in 1982. For Danielle Cline and Scott Krol of Hartville, it was the centerpiece of the night in 1998 when they fell in love.

It was the first date for the couple, at the Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron. They met weeks earlier after he answered a personal ad in The Repository.

Now, 19 years later, they're about to return to the newspaper to say "I do."

"Back then, The Repository had a dating line where you would call the main newspaper line and then a box number you were issued for men or women to hear your message," Cline said. "Mine was where I worked, my age, and just a little bio. Scott was interested and left a message on my box. I called back because I was interested.

"We met in person for five minutes at the Pantry restaurant parking lot in Hartville. We both had prior commitments, but later that night we talked until 4 a.m. the next day."

The couple continued to talk every day until they finally went out. Krol picked Cline up for dinner and a show.

"It was a really cheap date, too," he said. "I won the tickets on WKDD's Matt Patrick show. We had dinner, saw a show, and she was really impressed."

It was what he did following the show that really impressed her.

"It was a cold, snowy night," she said. "What really did it for me was he wanted to do something after the show, but I was really worried about my son, because the weather was so bad ... (Scott) said OK and we left right after the show. He was so good about it."
