The Society of Professional Journalists has recognized The Dispatch as the best newspaper and website in Ohio.

The Dispatch and its team of journalists took home 33 awards, including 25 first-place finishes, from the organization’s state chapter during a ceremony Saturday in Cincinnati. In the large newspaper category, The Dispatch and Dispatch.com both were recognized with first-place Best of Show awards.

Judges noted that the newspaper’s layout complements its content, calling it “an impressive daily.”

“It makes me want to spend time reading through the whole paper, consume the content and invest my time in the publication,” judges wrote.

The organization recognized several Dispatch journalists, from the paper’s news staff and sports pages to its graphics and photography teams.

Photographer Kyle Robertson was named best photographer in Ohio, and columnist Theodore Decker was named best columnist in the state. Designer Justin Gilbert was named best graphic designer in Ohio.

The Dispatch staff also was honored with first-place Best of Show awards for its CbusNEXT special section.
