Enquirer president adds new responsibilities

From The Cincinnati Enquirer

Eddie Tyner, who has served as president of Enquirer Media and the USA TODAY Network for Ohio since February, has been given an expanded role within Gannett Co. Inc.

Tyner, 46, takes on added responsibility as president for Gannett’s operation in Louisville, where the company publishes The Courier-Journal print newspaper and Courier-Journal.com. His new title: President of the USA TODAY Network for Ohio and Louisville.

He plans to split his time between Cincinnati and Louisville and will take an active role in the Louisville community as he has in Cincinnati.

Tyner’s responsibilities are expanding because Courier-Journal President Wes Jackson has been named the new president of USA TODAY Network Automotive. The automotive network does business with more than 4,500 automotive dealers and most manufacturers across Gannett’s 109 local markets.

Day-to-day operations of the Courier-Journal will be headed by Vice President and General Manager Chad Smith, who will report to Tyner.

Tyner has worked in publishing for more than two decades, including stints with the Washington Post, Cox and Tribune Company (now Tronc). Tyner said he’s eager to get involved in community efforts in Louisville.

“People are the most important part of the job, both within the organization and in the community we serve,” Tyner said. “We play an important role in Louisville’s civic life, and I’ll be fully engaged with the community.”

“Commitment to community and providing great career opportunities for our talented employees are both core values of our company. A day like today is clearly a celebration,” said Karen Ferguson Fuson, president of the USA TODAY Network West Group. “Jackson taking the lead for the USA TODAY Network as president of our automotive group is because of the tremendous leadership he has demonstrated in Louisville and at the Courier Journal. Smith taking on general manager responsibilities at the Courier-Journal is clearly because of his track record and passion as a leader."

"The fact we have an experienced senior leader like Tyner ready to take on role of president of the USA TODAY Network for Ohio and Louisville is a big win for everyone,” Ferguson Fuson said.

The Courier-Journal has more than 600 employees, a regional studio that designs 31 newspapers every day, a customer service center that serves the whole company and now the leadership of USA TODAY Network Automotive.

Enquirer Media publishes The Enquirer, Cincinnati.com and the Community Press group of weekly newspapers and runs the Media Network of Central Ohio, which publishes in print and digital in nearly a dozen communities across the state of Ohio.
