Be a working part of helping define our next chapter at the Daily Times in Portsmouth, Ohio. We are searching for a digital-first thinker who can assess our different audiences, then help lead the curation and development of focused content and images for our different audiences utilizing our website, newsletters and digital/print editions accordingly. The Daily Times publishes a complete digital newspaper six days a week, Monday-Saturday; a printed edition, Tuesday-Saturday; and a “market saturation” printed edition and its digital replica publication each Sunday. We serve the “Ohio River Valley” region of Southeastern Ohio with a combined circulation of over 30,000 readership, 130,000 monthly viewership and over 20,000 social media presence.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Managing and developing all cross-platform content gathering and editing operations. • Assessing the importance of potential news stories and relevance to our digital, print, and social audiences, • Developing content strategies and positioning content to attract audiences and developing new strategies for digital growth. • Scouting for local news and community interest stories • Writing for and monitoring digital platforms (website, digital editions, social media, etc) • Staff Management and staff development • Story assignment • Monitoring of scanner and news email, social media • Managing the pushing out of breaking news to our digital platforms • Maintaining open dialogue with readers and community leaders • Overseeing the quality of the reporting and the writing of coverage to ensure it aligns with the AIM Media Midwest brand standards Job Specs/Requirements: • Degree in journalism/communications or related discipline. • 2-5 years (newsroom preferred but not a requisite) leadership experience.
