ASSISTANT MAILROOM SUPERVISOR

APG Media of Ohio

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting Mailroom Manager in managing shift activities

within the Mailroom Department. This person will supervise the packaging staff with a hands-on approach as our team inserts special sections, advertising circulars into our newspapers and prepares products for postal delivery. Experience as a hands-on team member in a deadline driven operation is a must to perform this job, as is an ability to

evaluate workload, assign tasks and manage the scheduling process on the shift as needed. Qualified candidate must have basic personal computer skills, and some mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of the corresponding mailroom equipment and the ability to setup and run jobs as required. With this position, you will be responsible for providing excellent service to customers within APG Media and to readers, advertisers and the community through their regular job duties and as a member of the APG Media team to produce and deliver the best newspaper possible.

Job Functions

  • Reports to Mailroom Manager and should regularly keep them informed as to problems or potential problems in the Mailroom or elsewhere in the plant affecting efficient
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, motivating, and coordinating

of crews to produce an on-time and top-quality product.

  • Proficiently fill out necessary production report. Some mathematical

calculations apply.

  • Accountable for achieving quality results from assigned area and shift

responsibilities.

  • Sets up and operates all above equipment with limited assistance in absence of

Machine Inserter.

  • Ensure proper inserts are being used by checking against samples that are

supplied.

  • Read and interpret specifications, work orders and make critical adjustments as

needed.

  • Help prepare mail, which includes sorting, sacking and stacking onto
  • Perform miscellaneous duties, hand-stuffing, applying hand labels for
  • Feed preprints into insert machine hopper neatly and
  • Monitor insert machine to reduce double inserts and/or skips so that all jackets

have correct inserts.

  • Remove completed bundles, weighing 10 to 70 pounds and stack or bag

accurately for next step in packaging delivery.

  • Perform general clean up of papers, skids and debris that accumulate during the

workday.

Minimum Requirements

  • Require good reading ability and
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to effectively utilize Mailroom Equipment
  • Must meet time schedules and deadlines, which may involve
  • Must be accurate, as errors in sorting and applying postage could cause a total mailing to be rejected by USPS, returned for correction, and delay the critical mail
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-

workers, and other supervisors.

  • Having a general knowledge of the printing environment helpful, but not

required.

Technology Skills

Must have basic personal computer skills.

Education

High School diploma or GED equivalent or equivalent work experience preferred.
