Suspect in fatal shooting at Elyria newspaper’s parking lot arrested in Iowa

ELYRIA, Ohio — A Lorain man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting last month in the parking lot of a local newspaper was arrested by federal agents Thursday in Iowa, the U.S. Marshals Service says.

Antoine Richardson, 25, has been charged with murder after police say he shot and killed Isael Eduardo Rios on Sept. 2 in the parking lot of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram on East Avenue. Richardson also has been charged with felonious assault.

The Northern Iowa Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Richardson in Cedar Rapids, authorities say. He is in the process of being extradited to Ohio.

The Chronicle-Telegram noted that surveillance footage showed that the shooting happened just before 2:30 a.m., after three vehicles pulled into the parking lot. Police still have not released information on a possible motive for the shooting.

Chronicle-Telegram employees found Rios after the early morning press run and alerted authorities, according to the newspaper. Rios was pronounced dead at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.
